The presidential election of 2016 had many of us wondering why we select our presidents with the Electoral College and whether we should change that system. Join us for our discussion of where the Electoral College came from, how it works, why it sometimes fails to choose the candidate who won the most popular votes, and whether or not it would be wise to replace the Electoral College with some new way of selecting the president.
Meet our presenter: Dr. David Smailes
Dr. David Smailes is an Associate Professor in the Political Science department at Framingham State University. He joined the Framingham State community in the fall of 2017 after teaching for many years at both Westfield State University and Regis College. David teaches undergraduate courses in American politics and public administration at Framingham State. He also serves as the Director of the Master of Public Administration (MPA) graduate program at FSU, where he is also an instructor for several graduate courses.
